Park & Play

With a climate that's perfect for outdoor activities just about 365 days a year, it's no wonder parks are plentiful in San Diego. You'll find our city has the perfect place to run and play, picnic and relax, or just enjoy a beautiful San Diego day.

Below is a list of Downtown parks and their locations.

Balboa Park
With over 1,400 acres, Balboa Park is the nation's largest urban cultural park, housing more than 80 cultural institutions, 15 museums and art galleries, four theatres, one pipe organ and the World Famous San Diego Zoo.

Children's Park
Just across the street from the Convention Center is Children's Park where you can play in the soft grass or marvel at a cool 200-foot-diameter water feature and fountain. This park is the perfect place for enjoying the sunshine and a spot of green in downtown San Diego.

Gaslamp Quarter Park
Located at the trolley stop at Fifth Avenue and Harbor Drive, at the foot of the Historic Gaslamp Quarter, this urban oasis features a whimsical, dancing water feature.

Horton Plaza Park
Easily recognized as the backdrop to NBC 7/39's street-side studio, this historic plaza is nicely landscaped with a unique water fountain as the centerpiece the first in the U.S. to have electric lights. Located on Broadway between Third and Fourth Avenues, it's a short stroll from the Convention Center.

Martin Luther King Jr. Promenade
Across from the San Diego Convention Center, this beautifully landscaped linear park is a favorite for pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists. This urban forest features tall trees, colorful flowers, lush shrubs, and stone benches. Its public art, including three unique sculptures, celebrates the dreams and words of Dr. King. Located along North Harbor Drive.

North and South Embarcadero Marina Park
These two parks wrap around the Embarcadero Marina and offer fabulous views of San Diego Bay. Just south of Seaport Village is the North Embarcadero Marina Park. This waterfront park is popular for picnics, kite flying or just watching the activity in the harbor. Directly behind the Convention Center is its counterpart, South Embarcadero Marina Park. This park is the site of special events, concerts and festivals, including the San Diego Symphony's Summer Pops concert series.

Pantoja Park
This serene park, built in 1850, is San Diego's oldest. Back in the day, pioneer women carried buckets of water to nourish the young trees and plants, which are now over 150 years old. The large grassy area is perfect for throwing a ball around or playing a friendly game of soccer. It is located on G Street between State and Kettner Blvd.

Park at the Park
Situated directly behind the outfield wall of the San Diego Padres home, PETCO Park, the 2.7 acre Park at the Park provides fans with the unique opportunity to picnic and watch baseball. A lush, grassy lawn make it the perfect neighborhood park where you can throw a baseball, toss a Frisbee, or just relax.
